I recently sat in a room full of 23 strangers and was told that by the end of the month of June we will become family. During this meeting there were no icebreakers, no meet and greet, and no information was exchanged. As we left we were still complete strangers.
When I was in this orientation meeting I felt the same way that I felt when I went to my first OSU orientation. A little bit overwhelmed, full of excitement, and trying super hard to hide that I was actually a little nervous.
I hope more than anything that I am writing in June and I can confirm that we indeed did become a family.
Regardless of the outcome of my trip, I have already seen changes in myself as a result of deciding to embark on this study abroad adventure.
Recently, I signed up to run the Columbus Half Marathon. If you know anything about me, running isn’t something that comes easy to me. It’s something I’ve had to work on for a while. I feel that committing to go abroad and explore outside of my comfort zone has pushed me to achieve other goals I have for myself as well. Even smaller things that I would usually be nervous or reserved about I have attempted to do.
I would definitely recommend committing to something that you’ve always wanted to do or committing to a step that will help you complete a personal goal. For me it has given me a newfound confidence that I didn’t even know I was lacking.
